House of the Dragon Premieres with All-Star Cast
Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans, and Eve Best Join Matt Smith in HBO's Game of Thrones Prequel
Season One Debuts August 21, 2022
The highly anticipated first season of the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, is set to premiere on HBO on August 21, 2022. Joining the cast alongside Matt Smith is an impressive roster of actors, including Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans, and Eve Best.
The series tells the story of the Targaryen civil war that occurred approximately 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Smith) is at the center of the conflict, as she fights for her right to the Iron Throne against her uncle, Aegon II Targaryen.
Frankel portrays Ser Criston Cole, a knight who becomes a sworn protector of Rhaenyra. Ifans appears as Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King and a key advisor to King Viserys I Targaryen. Best plays Rhaenys Targaryen, a dragon rider and potential rival to Rhaenyra.
