Mass Casualty Incident Reported After Tornadoes Devastate Downtown Sulphur

EF3 Tornadoes Demolish City Center

A catastrophic tornado outbreak left a trail of destruction in downtown Sulphur, Oklahoma, on Saturday night, resulting in a mass casualty incident. The National Weather Service has confirmed at least two tornadoes, rated EF3 on the Enhanced Fujita scale, which ripped through the heart of the city.

Extensive Damage and Loss of Life

The tornadoes caused widespread damage to buildings, homes, and infrastructure. Emergency responders are currently conducting search and rescue operations, but authorities fear that the death toll may rise as the extent of the damage becomes clearer.

"It's like a war zone out there," said Mayor James Byrd. "The downtown area is completely devastated."

Rescue workers are facing significant challenges accessing the affected areas due to downed power lines and debris. Hospitals in Sulphur and neighboring communities are overwhelmed with injured residents, and additional medical assistance has been requested.
